"Songs of Social Significance" David Rovics grew up in a family of classical musicians in Wilton, Connecticut, and became a fan of populist regimes early on. By the early 90's he was a full-time busker in the Boston subways and by the mid-90's he was travelling the world as a professional flat-picking rabble-rouser. These days David lives with his family in Portland, Oregon and tours regularly on four continents, playing for audiences large and small at cafes, pubs, universities, churches, union halls and protest rallies. He has shared the stage with a veritable of who's who of the left in two dozen countries, and has had his music featured on Democracy Now!, BBC, Al-Jazeera and other networks. His essays are published regularly on CounterPunch elsewhere, and the 200+ songs he makes available for free on the web have been downloaded more than a million times. Most importantly, he's really good. He will make you laugh, he will make you cry, he will make the revolution irresistible. "Listen to David Rovics..." - Pete Seeger "...the peace poet and troubador for our time." - Cindy Sheehan "David Rovics is the musical version of Democracy Now!" - Amy Goodman |

Candice
& Nadinne Stop Press! Candice & Nadinne receive positive album review in "Capital News"! Candice Austin and Nadinne Riddell have already been compared to The Judds, and one listen to their superb new album shows this comparison to be well and truly deserved. Pure harmonies, 12 great songs and quality production from Nashville-based Australian producer MARK MOFFATT make this one the year’s standout releases to date. Highlight tracks include It Happens, Sure Feels Like Love and the current single and title track Breakin’ It Down. The beautiful ballad My Revenge showcases CANDICE & NADINNE’s superb vocals perfectly as does Like I’m Leavin’ and the cheeky Not No But Hell No. Candice & Nadinne have already tasted local and International success following the release of their debut album Just Another Day back in 2004 and Breaking It Down is poised to take this immensely talented duo to even greater heights. With young talent like this on show, the future of Australian country music is in very good hands. Daryl Kirkup, Courtesy Capital News

Anna Buntovnikova
and Dido Durmanovic @ The Folk Centre… They will perform Anna’s own songs as well as the most famous traditional Russian songs and romances. It must be mentioned that Russian songs with their distinctive melodies and harmonies were always very attractive to great performers. Deanna Durbin, Luciano Pavarotty, Mary Hopkin and many others loved to sing them because of their sparkling and magical nature. Russian songs are unique in that many different moods and feelings are unrestrainedly merged into one concoction of sentiment that let you experience in unison both happiness and grief; anger and love... Anna’s deep voice and Dido’s great guitar skills will immerse you in the crux of Russian stage performance. See here for the full bio of Anna Buntovnikova & Dido Durmanovic

When it all comes down to it, Amber Lawrence, the award-winning singer-songwriter has much to be proud of – having just been announced as the inaugural winner of the “Telstra Horizon Award” at the 2010 Tamworth Golden Guitar Awards. The award is to commend a young artist for their success in touring, recording, song writing and performing and whilst being young themselves, are excellent mentors. This comes off the
back of the release of Amber’s second album “When It All Comes Down”
which received 3 prestigious Golden 2008 "was a year I didn’t plan for,” she said. “My dad got sick in February. He’d come to the Golden Guitar Awards and saw me sing on the Awards show, but when he came home from the festival he went straight to hospital for treatment.” “We all thought he could survive it, and every day, for five months, I’d go to the hospital and sit and write. It was good because I’d play the songs I’d written to Dad and get his feedback. Sadly, he passed away six months before the album was produced, but he definitely had an input into the song selection, so this is a really special album for me – a healing album in a way.” says Amber. “It’s actually surprising how happy this album is. I have a very positive outlook on life and I guess that’s reflected in the songs on this album”. The result is an album full of inspiration, fun, and happiness. Amber certainly has a way with words, and her cheeky personality and emotive vocals are what shines through on this album. |

Blackheart Just three years in they are widely regarded as the fastest rising stars of the new folk generation having become established for both their live concerts, their outstanding debut album ‘Indigo’ and now their brand new CD 'Invisible'. The last three years have seen them headline their own successful tours across the UK, Scotland and Ireland, a major city tour as guest of Jared Osmond of the famous Osmond family, a TV commercial soundtrack and worldwide radio play including Radio 2 Spotlight Song of the Day twice. Their songwriting blends folk, country and even rock influences to create a unique style of beautifully crafted, instantly memorable songs that has been christened by the media ‘urban folk’. Their highly personal songs paint pictures of their lives with subjects such as hometowns, marriage, faith, redundancy, bereavement and even suicide all being treated with the sensitive, intellectual lyrical observation that is becoming the trademark of their work. Their live shows combine the unforgettable lemon and honey voice of Chrissy Mostyn and jaw-dropping acoustic guitar playing of Rick Pilkington with highly entertaining audience interaction as they tell the stories behind their songs. Plans for 2010 include third album ‘Songs From a Satellite’ to be released in the Autumn, plus extensive tours of the UK, Ireland and Australia. |

Based in Melbourne, Braemar, consisting of Eddie Lewis and Marc de Rijk, is undoubtedly one of Australia’s best Celtic duos, delighting audiences around the country with an impressive performance resumé of classic Scottish and Irish songs. The duo is renowned for lavish harmonies and for its “passionate commitment ... to continuing the tradition of the Celtic diaspora” Braemar was formed in early 2004 and since then has performed everywhere from the Australian Celtic Festival at Glen Innes to the pre-match national anthem slot at a Wallabies v Scotland Rugby Union Test to entertaining Prince Edward during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Wherever they perform the duo receives critical acclaim from audiences and peers alike. Braemar's albums, Beirt Leaids (2004) and Eire and Alba, Songs of the Gael (2006) were exceptionally well received by fans and critics alike. The pair has recorded a ‘theme’ album of "Lochaber No More’ which was released in late 2008. The national launch of this album was at the National Celtic Festival at Portarlington in June 2009, where the performance of "Lochaber No More" received standing ovations from full houses at each of its two performances. |
