Where to find us
The Folk Centre is on the corner of George Street and South Road, Thebarton.

Run by the Folk Federation of South Australia, the facilities incorporate offices for the Folk Federation, and a Function Centre Hall which has been developed into a Performance, Events and Rehearsal space. The Folk Federation is pleased to be working in partnership with the West Torrens Council. In addition a number of key sponsors are assisting us to develop the Folk Centre into a centre of excellence for showcasing South Australian folk arts in particular, and Australia wide in general.

What is a Folk Centre?
The Folk Centre Project has a number of aims. Firstly to give a focus place for Folk activity in South Australia and secondly to generate a range of Folk activity and to market that activity to the public.

The SA Folk Centre office also houses the John Morris Library.

officesm.gif (4579 bytes) yard-sml.gif (5527 bytes) Our 'back yard' offers plenty of parking and shade for lively music sessions.

Our aim is to develop the Folk Centre in a number of stages over the next few years.

Apart from a larger office for our Festivals, Magazine, projects and the running of the Folk Centre we have incorporated into the office the John Morris Library and meeting rooms.

The Performance Space is licensed for 240 people and is a well resourced venue with a good stage, in-house lighting and sound system, and full bar facilities. It has sprung wooden floors which make it suitable for dance rehearsals and performance, and it has disability access and separate toilets for visitors confined to wheelchairs.

The whole Folk Centre is serviced by car parking for 70 cars, is on a direct bus route,  and is less than ten minutes from the Adelaide City centre. It is ideally located on a major arterial road, and has a large number of cars passing the Centre each day.

Our plans for the new Folk Centre are to present a wide variety of Folk activity in the one place. We see this as including:

- One Off Events such as: Concerts, Folk Dances, Special Events, Parties, CD Launches, Touring Folk Artists, Mini Festivals, Fundraiser Events, Workshop Weekends & Seminars

- Regular Activities such as sessions, Rehearsals, Classes, training, weekly concerts etc..

- In addition we would see the Folk Centre as an excellent venue for other activities such as:- Exhibitions, Arts and Craft Fairs, Wedding Receptions (or wakes!) and even catered functions.

We envisage that the Folk Centre will hold functions that are both alcohol-free and also some with full bar facilities. It will be a "Smoke-Free" venue!

In short it will be a "Folk-Friendly" Venue and Centre.

How You Can Get Involved
It is important that the South Australian Folk, Music and Arts community gets behind the concept. We see it as a great opportunity to promote Folk music, give it better resources, unite it under an umbrella and build on the successes of our festivals and the folk activity currently generated by our various and diverse musicians, groups, organisations and artists here in SA.

Here's how we see you being able to get involved in the new Folk Centre.

* Staging Your events or activities at the Folk Centre. Special rates will apply for FFSA members

* Coming to Events and activities at the Folk Centre.

* Helping with volunteer work at the new Folk Centre. We will require the help of people with office skills, handyman or trade skills, general duties, publicity, bar skills and so on. If you are able to help in some of the establishment work during February and March. We’d love to hear from you

* Passing on information to potential users of the Folk Centre.

We welcome all FFSA Members and friends of the Folk Federation to drop in and have a look at the new Folk Centre.
