| Why The John Morris Library? John Morris was the Folk Federations' inaugural Librarian. After his untimely death, just a few weeks after the Library's official opening in May 2001, the Library was named after John, in tribute to the tremendous work he did to establish the library. John built the library shelves, computer desk and library table from recycled materials, and began the task of cataloging our accumulation of demo tapes, CD's, donated LP's and assorted newsletters. What Can I Find in The Library? These are catalogued alphabetically by artist's name. The library has a CD player so you can listen to CD's or cassettes. There are also books in the library. While some are promotional copies sent to the Folk Federation, most are donated by members. These are categorised into Music & Songbooks; Fiction; Poetry & Verse; History, and Reference. Within each category books are catalogued alphabetically by author. There are some back copies of some magazines, donated by members. These include Folk Roots (UK); Sing Out! (USA); and Rhythms (AUS). There is an archive of newsletters received by the Folk Federation, as well as a near-complete set of our own magazine inFOLKus. What Materials Can I Borrow? You cannot borrow LP's or cassettes, or some books which have been classified as Reference Books. Magazines and newsletters cannot be borrowed because they are too easily damaged, and impossible to replace. However, you can read reference books, magazines and newsletters in the library, or photocopy portions for a small fee. Who Can Borrow? You must be a current financial member of the Folk Federation to be eligible to borrow from the library. |
